Strengthening Partnerships for Disability Inclusion: HAPI Engages the National Human Rights Commission

On 19 August 2025, Hope Alive for Possibilities Initiative (HAPI) took a strategic step forward in advancing disability rights by paying a courtesy visit to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Abuja.

Led by HAPI’s Executive Director, the delegation was warmly received by the leadership and management of the Commission. What followed was not just a formal meeting, but a meaningful dialogue grounded in a shared commitment to human rights, equity, and inclusion — with disability rights firmly at the centre.

A Shared Vision for Human Rights

During the engagement, both HAPI and the NHRC reflected on the urgent need to strengthen protections for persons with disabilities and ensure their rights are not treated as an afterthought within Nigeria’s broader human rights framework.

The NHRC commended HAPI’s work and impact, recognising the organisation’s role in grassroots advocacy, policy engagement, and community-level inclusion efforts. More importantly, the Commission pledged its support — signalling the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at amplifying disability rights advocacy nationwide.

From Conversation to Action

This visit marked more than goodwill. It laid the foundation for collaboration focused on accountability, awareness, and action — ensuring that the rights of persons with disabilities remain visible, protected, and enforced within national human rights conversations.

At HAPI, we believe that lasting inclusion is built through strong partnerships. When institutions work together, policies move from paper to practice, and communities become safer and more equitable for everyone.

Building a More Inclusive Nigeria — Together

As this partnership unfolds, HAPI remains committed to working alongside the NHRC to advance a Nigeria where justice is accessible, dignity is respected, and no one is left behind.

Because inclusion is not optional. It is a human right.
