HAPI Strengthens Digital Inclusion Through a Two-Day Digital Accessibility Workshop

HAPI Strengthens Digital Inclusion Through a Two-Day Digital Accessibility Workshop

Inclusion Begins with Accessibility

As the world becomes increasingly digital, access to information, public services, education, employment, and civic participation depends on whether digital platforms are designed for everyone.

For persons with disabilities, inaccessible websites, social media content, online forms, PDFs, videos, and mobile applications can create significant barriers to participation. At Hope Alive for Possibilities Initiative (HAPI), we believe that digital inclusion cannot exist without digital accessibility.

With support from the Disability Rights Fund (DRF), on 4–5 June 2026, HAPI organized a two-day Digital Accessibility Workshop for members of its Board of Trustees (BoTs), staff, volunteers, and interns. The workshop forms part of HAPI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, improve accessible communication, and ensure that our digital platforms are inclusive and usable by everyone.

Building Internal Capacity for Lasting Change

The workshop brought together HAPI’s leadership and team members to strengthen their understanding of digital accessibility and to embed accessibility into the organization’s everyday work.

Participants explored internationally recognized accessibility standards, practical tools, and inclusive communication practices that will guide the development of HAPI’s website, social media platforms, publications, reports, and digital resources.

The training also included a comprehensive accessibility audit of HAPI’s digital platforms, enabling participants to identify barriers and develop practical solutions that align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Rather than treating accessibility as a one-time exercise, the workshop laid the foundation for continuous learning, monitoring, and improvement across the organization.

From Learning to Action

The workshop is already informing concrete actions across HAPI. These include:

  • Strengthening the accessibility of HAPI’s website and digital platforms.
  • Adopting accessible social media publishing practices.
  • Developing organizational accessibility policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Improving digital documents, reports, and publications.
  • Building staff capacity to create accessible content by default.
  • Establishing systems for ongoing accessibility monitoring and continuous improvement.

By embedding accessibility into governance, communications, and programme implementation, HAPI is ensuring that inclusion is reflected not only in what we advocate for but also in how we work.

Advancing Disability-Inclusive Development

This workshop contributes to HAPI’s broader mission of promoting disability rights, inclusive development, and equal participation for persons with disabilities.

The initiative aligns with our commitment to creating environments where information, opportunities, and services are accessible to everyone, while contributing to national and global efforts to leave no one behind.

We sincerely appreciate the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) for supporting this important institutional capacity-strengthening initiative. Their investment enables HAPI to strengthen its internal systems and deliver more accessible, inclusive, and rights-based programmes for the communities we serve.
