Who We Are

Hope Alive for Possibilities Initiative is a women led organization of persons with disabilities that works to facilitate the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities linking UNCRPD, SDGs, Global Disability Summit, Africa 2063 and Nigeria Disability Act.
Over the past 3 years HAPI has carried out several interventions including skills training for women and girls in humanitarian setting (IDP) camps – reaching about 85 beneficiaries, policy-based advocacy for disability inclusion, Inclusive SRHR and services, advocacy for accessible air travel, electoral inclusion, and media awareness (Possibilities TV).
HAPI was born out of the personal experiences of the Executive Director (Aver Akighir). After her amputation due to a road accident (February 2003), she faced several challenges especially negative attitudinal perceptions. This experience opened her up to the wider disability community highlighting the grave challenges persons with disabilities especially women and girls go through accessing multi sectoral services and social inclusion. Her passion for disability inclusion drove her to discover and mentor young girls with disabilities, and this marked the birth of HAPI. HAPI was officially registered in 2021.
