2-DAY CONSULTATIVE WORKSHOP FOR STAKEHOLDERS ON DEVELOPING A STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP) FOR INTEGRATED SERVICE PROVISION AND STRENGTHENED REFERRAL PATHWAYS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The provision of integrated services and strengthened referral pathways for persons with disabilities (PWDs) is crucial in ensuring their full participation and inclusion in society. Unfortunately, many PWDs face barriers to accessing quality services and are often left behind. In light of this, the Centre for Women Health and Information (CEWHIN) organized a two-day consultative workshop in Abuja aimed at developing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for integrated service provision and strengthened referral pathways for PWDs.

The workshop brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from the FCT Office for Disabilities Affairs, the Department of Social Science at the University of Abuja, civil society organizations (CSOs), and PWDs. HAPI was represented at the workshop, where valuable insights were shared and valid recommendations were made to enhance the robustness and inclusiveness of the already existing SOP in the state.

During the workshop, participants engaged in discussions on a range of issues, including the challenges faced by PWDs in accessing quality services, the gaps in the current SOP, and the opportunities for improving service provision and referral pathways. The workshop also provided a platform for participants to share their experiences and exchange ideas on best practices for providing integrated services and strengthening referral pathways for PWDs.

One key outcome of the workshop was the development of a comprehensive SOP that outlines the steps for integrated service provision and strengthened referral pathways for PWDs. The SOP provides guidance on the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in the service provision chain, including government agencies, service providers, and CSOs. The SOP also emphasizes the need for effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that PWDs receive the best possible care and support.

Overall, the workshop was a great success, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to come together and collaborate towards improving the lives of PWDs in Nigeria. By developing a comprehensive SOP, stakeholders have taken a critical step towards enhancing the provision of integrated services and strengthened referral pathways for PWDs. Going forward, it will be essential to continue building on the momentum generated by the workshop and ensure that the recommendations made are implemented effectively to benefit PWDs across the country.
